Cryptograms is a game that tests your deductive and word finding skills as you decode a series of letters to reveal a hidden message!

Puzzle Baron’s Cryptograms is the 2nd volume of the highly rated PBC1 that scored 4.7/5 stars. Volume 2 contains 100 new quotations which are organized into some new and popular categories like Actors, Musicians, Scientists and U.S Presidents.

The second volume is equipped with special features that displays the remaining letters of a puzzle and even the letter frequencies! The ability to view the answers after completion has also been added to Cryptograms Volume 2.

The game has three difficulty levels, that will challenge the skills of beginners and seasoned players alike. Newer players can use the hints feature to help them solve the puzzles.

Once you successfully complete a puzzle, you’ll see a graph that shows the comparison of your time and the number of hints taken (if any) with other players who have completed the puzzle.

Mystery Castle is a very interesting game, the movement is intuitive and it works very well on all Kindles, even the older Kindles. Overall Mystery Castle has twenty four levels and the difficulty increases with every level. You can’t move to the next level unless you complete the previous level.

To help you solve the mysteries of the castle, the game has two pages of instructions. These instructions act as a good reference once you get the hold of the game.

The artwork is intricate and it may seem quite small at times. People who use reading glasses may struggle at first until the elements of the game become more familiar.

The game play is well designed, with shortcut keys for movement, as well as nice touches like hiding tiles that aren’t in play (which also speeds up movement). A Hint key displays matches. A timer keeps track of play, though that doesn’t seem to be recorded anywhere else.  The screenshots below give a feel for the look and many more details:

When you select New Game for the first time, you will see a series of screens explaining various features. This is the first screen.

The second screen explains some of the shortcut movement keys available. Although not required, they do speed up play considerably.

After matching a caterpillar, you then need to feed it by matching leaves or honeydew tiles of varying quantities.

Success! After feeding the caterpillar and then matching some sun tiles, it will hatch into butterfly. But watch out for wind tiles that can deplete the caterpillar's energy too much and stop it from hatching.

The statistics section helps you keep track of how many butterflies you've found and how many are remaining.

After you've hatched a butterfly, it is placed in your encyclopedia for your later viewing pleasure.

Jewel Quest Solitaire is a solitaire card game by a new-to-Kindle publisher, iWin. They’ve ported their highly rated Jewel Quest Solitaire game and it looks excellent. You can play a trial game online to get a feel for it first (and read the rave reviews). Unusually for the Kindle, its played in landscape mode.

The navigation is well done. You can use the top row of letters as keys (Q=1, W=2, etc), or navigate using the 5-Way controller using the grid at the bottom right by using the Select key to move between the puzzle grid and the choice grid (see the screenshot).

The Menu key controls the many options in the game such as hiding the timer, selecting Undo, highlighting mistakes, “pencil marks”, clear all, show solution, and pause the timer.  Although there are many possible puzzles, each one comes with a code on the bottom that you can share with others so they can play the same game. A thoughtful touch.

We’re not expert enough in Sudoku to judge the appropriateness of the 5 difficulty levels, but when combined with the grid sizes available of 4×4, 6×6, 8×8 and 9×9 and the millions of combinations, this is certain to satisfy most Sudoku players!
